“Blue Moon”… so called because it seems we can only get our hands on this complex variety once every Blue Moon!!
Viognier can be very delicate – it favours warm, but not hot climates, has variable crop loads and requires a lot of attention at harvest time. As a result, it provides a very small window for optimal ripeness. Pinpoint that optimal ripeness and the aromatics, flavour and delicate mouthfeel produce a stunning wine. In 2023 it was Mudgee that provided this small window of ripeness, and allowed us to produce another Blue Moon.
This Viognier was fermented in French oak puncheons for 6 weeks, and then bottled early to retain the lovely textural creaminess on the palate and the fresh peach and apricot complexity. Who doesn’t love peaches and cream! It is a drink now style which pairs wonderfully with spicy Indian, Thai and Moroccan dishes.
