2017 Alasdair Shiraz
Return to Shop
Named after the late, great Alasdair Sutherland. A past colleague, a Hunter Valley legend and most importantly a dear friend.
There is one word that sums up the start of 2017……..HOT.
January and February had 40° averages, with some days reaching 45°. We recorded our hottest day ever in the vineyard in February…… a blistering 48° C. Despite these hot conditions we had some well-timed rain events in January allowing our dry grown blocks of Alasdair Shiraz to re-hydrate and continue to ripen evenly, clear of any problems. These dry conditions gifted us with beautifully ripe, clean fruit of superb quality.
Our 2017 vintage has many similarities to the great year of 2014, however the hotter, drier 2017 vintage resulted in riper fruit and more robust flavours.
The colour is a rich and vibrant red with some youthful purple hues. Lively aromas lead you into a palate which is full of blackberry, currant and cherry flavours with overtones of green olives and characteristic Hunter white peppery spice.
This is our biggest Alasdair Shiraz so far and a worthy wine to carry the Alasdair name.
